Emily McNamara,
Psychologist PLLC
Welcome!
I’m Dr. Emily McNamara, a licensed clinical psychologist in New York offering adult individual and couples therapy via telehealth.
I specialize in treating anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, and couples therapy. I work with individuals, couples, and adult family members.
My Approach
I take an integrative, attachment-informed approach to therapy.
I draw primarily from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), psychodynamic relational therapy, and emotionally focused therapy (EFT), to help you learn practical skills and build insight into your patterns. I will work with you to identify your personal goals and values, and join you actively in the room to bring about growth and change. Together, we can decide how to take steps to move you closer to what matters to you, deepen your self-understanding, and strengthen your relationships.
Using this framework, I have expertise helping individuals and couples improve their struggles with anxiety, recover from trauma, resolve relationship and intimacy issues, navigate major life transitions, understand family conflict, process grief and loss, cope with health problems, explore gender/sexual and identity issues, examine perfectionism, address obsessive-compulsive traits, and manage personality disorders.
I hope to create an environment of safety and understanding, honoring the diversity of all individuals’ identities and backgrounds, to help you feel heard and understood.

While I do not currently accept insurance, if your health insurance plan includes out-of-network benefits, I will provide documentation to submit for reimbursement on your behalf.
To check if your plan includes out-of-network benefits, you can call your insurance company and ask the following questions:
Do I have out-of-network mental health insurance benefits?
What is my out-of-network deductible and has it been met?
What are my out-of-network benefits for a teletherapy office visit for routine behavioral health services?
Do my benefits provide coverage for individual therapy (procedure code: 90834) or couples therapy (procedure code: 90847)?
What percentage of the psychologist’s fees will the insurance company reimburse for outpatient psychotherapy?
